Best Wine Country Hotel: 2002 Editorial Winners #1 Cottage Grove Inn
"Beautifully detailed private cottages in the Wine Country's most famous spa town."
(Citysearch, 2002)

"Calistoga has no shortage of cottage accommodations, but none are better-conceived than those at the new Cottage Grove Inn. Each of the   16 storybook structures has a front porch with wicker rockers, a    fireplace, TV/DVD, wet bar, and deep Jacuzzi tub. Twin armchairs and bedside lights keep couples happy."
(Travel & Leisure)

"Sonoma and Napa counties are home to one of the West's greatest assortments of floral-print pillows, cheap pine bed frames, and cute stuffed animals. So when you walk into a room at Calistoga's Cottage Grove Inn, it's impossible not to wonder, "Why can't everyone do this?" Sixteen cottages, each with a tiny yard and a porch with rocking chairs, stretch alongside a lane that winds beneath a grove of Siberian elms."
(Escape - 25 Great Getaways)

"Bed-and-breakfast inn guest books get the gushiest comments...reflections of the romantic mood inspired by ambience. The guest books at Cottage Grove Inn in Calistoga are no exception." "Nestled under the elms, the 16 cottages are surrounded by lush greenery and colorful flowers. The filtered light is soft and serene." "Later we took a glass of wine and a plate of cheeses to enjoy as we luxuriated in our own private Jacuzzi. In fact, there doesn't seem to be a thing the three partners didn't include for their patrons pleasures, relaxations or business needs." (Contra Costa Sunday Times)

"Small-town charm can still be found in Napa Valley. Head for Calistoga and stay at the romantic Cottage Grove Inn, where the 16 Craftsman-style cottages have wood-burning fireplaces and two-person Jacuzzis. (Metropolitan Home)

"Every comtemporary comfort has been seen to, yet there's a sense of old-fashioned quality. I enjoy just sitting on the front porch in a wicker chair and contemplating tranquility." (Diversion)

Romantic Traveling,
"Sometimes recapturing a romantic mood calls for a change of scene. Calistoga, in California's northern Napa Valley, is only a two-hour drive from San Francisco, and the Cottage Grove Inn, one of the town's newest lodgings, seems just right for a romantic interlude."

"Favortie Inn in the Wine Country. Cottage Grove Inn in Calistoga. We felt like we were playing house in this 2-year-old colony of cottages...with every amenity we could possibly want." (New Orleans Times-Picayune,

Calistoga, where to stay. "Sixteen individually designed cottages with covered porches are situated within an old grove of elm trees on the original site of Sam Brannan's resort." "Each bathroom boasts a two-person Jacuzzi, a vanity with two sinks, and Egyptian-cotton towels." (Appellation magazine)

Karen Brown's California Charming Inns & Itineraries
In the 1970s Monica Bootcheck, Tom Stimpert, and Bob Beck shared a three-apartment houseboat in Sausalito. Their friendship endured and 20 years later, along with their spouses, they pooled their talents of architecture, contracting, interior design, and marketing and built the Cottage Grove Inn. The inn is a complex of 16 individual cottages tucked into a beautiful grove of century-old Siberian Elm trees. The property reflects the nostalgic charm of yesteryear. From the outside each of the sweet, doll-house-like cottages has a similar appearance, with a clapboard exterior painted a warm dove gray, accented by deep-coral-colored shutters and crisp white trim. A romantic porch stretches across the front of each cottage with two white wicker rockers just begging you to relax with a good book. Inside, each cottage has its own personality, achieved through decorative accessories, beautiful wall colors, fine fabrics, lovely linens, and high-quality furnishings. Another bonus: each has a wood-burning fireplace and an enormous bathroom featuring a wonderful, deep Jacuzzi tub big enough for two (and cozy bathrobes). A romatic place to hide away with someone you love.

Ranking 3 1/2 Kisses. "All the cottages have impressive features like hardwood floors, Jacuzzi tubs, wet bars, dimming lights and skylights in both bedroom and bath, and soft robes for the two of you. Shaded porches are perfect places to lounge the day away." (Best Places to Kiss in Northern California 5th Edition by Linnea Lundgren)

Calistoga: Cottage Grove Inn: "Love at First Sight"

As soon as you seen the grounds, you will begin to relax. Lots of thought, time and money have gone into the landscaping, birdhouses, et al.Each cottage has its own 'theme' and all have soft, 400 count sheets, double jacuzzi, wood burning fireplace, CD player, etc etc. Very little is overlooked--maybe a rose next to the bed and a chocolate on the pillows--but the bath salts, front porch rockers and superior cleanliness overshadow any long-stemmed rose! Can't wait to go back...yummmm

Calistoga: Cottage Grove Inn: "Honeymoon memories"

First off, understand that I am writing this review nearly three years after the fact of having stayed in this wonderful place while on our honeymoon! On a trip that started in San Francisco, then spent 11 incredible days winding South from Calistoga to La Jolla, the weekend spent at Cottage Grove stands out in my mind, all this time later. My wife and I checked into the Rose Floral cottage after having spent an afternoon hiking at Muir Woods. A bottle of sparkling wine and handwritten congratulations awaited us in our immaculate and well-decorated cottage. In addition to the delights that the Napa and Sonoma Valley provided us over the next few days, our evening wine sipping and sumptuous breakfasts at Cottage Grove truly made our time in the valley unforgettable. It is our goal to return for a long weekend in a few years, sometime around our 5th Anniversary. We still order the provided shampoos, conditioners, and lotions from Essential Oils (EO) that we discovered in our cottage:) from the Internet.I cannot recommend this place more highly for a romantic getaway or special occasion. You'll LOVE it!
